Nahavand
Located in Hamadan Province approximately 50 miles southeast of the city of Hamadan, Nahavand and the immediate area has been occupied for over 7000 years according to famed French Iranologist, Roman Ghirshman and his excavation team who excavated there in in the early 1930s. A steady supply of run off from Mt Alvand, the abundant water supply provided for flourishing early agricultural development an settlement. Nahavand was the site of the final battle between Arab Muslims and Sasanians in 642 resulting the in demise of the dynasty and the advent Islam in Iran.
Nahavand rugs, as with most Hamadan rugs, are single wefted, smaller size, often in the 4-6 x 7-6 range, usually geometric in design but some appear more curvilinear like the one featured here. The wool pile is often very fine and soft to the touch with a velvety feel.
Thank you.
